Two couples are trying to cope with their relationship problems. The couples include Toby (Billy Crudup) and Elaine (Maggie Gyllenhaal) who are in their late 30s and have been dating for 7 years. She is ready to get married and have babies, but he doesn’t seem to be catching on. The second couple is Elaine’s best friend and Toby’s sister (Julianne Moore), and Tom (David Duchovny) a house-dad who is struggling with his sex drive and an affair. In the end the audience is wondering if these are couples who are both bound to fail.
